Wireless Home Network

I never saw the need for paying for Internet service since the University of Illinois graciously provides that service to its employees, so I took the bad with the good, had free service and paid the price by waiting for the very slow download speed of dial-up. That all changed last week.

My nephew decided to move up to Champaign County and live with me so he could finish his college degree. He is taking 5 total classes, two of which are online, and I'm taking 3 classes, one of which is online, and my son is certain he needs online constantly for whatever reason he can come up with, so I knew I had to make a change.

I have since been wired for cable Internet for only 30 dollars a month. I can handle that price since it is a necessity now. Then we went to Circuit City and bought a wireless home-network so we can all be online at the same time. With rebates, the total of the wireless home-network is about 84 dollars. Still good on a single income! It is working out really well for us. We have a wired desktop, a wireless desktop, and my laptop all connected to the network. My IT person has helped make sure it is a secure network to avoid any unfortunate unpleasantries.

The one problem we've run into is printer sharing. I have printed out many pages of instructions on this, but nothing seems to help. I print fine from the wired desktop, but I cannot seem to print from the wireless desktop even after setting both desktops with the same settings under printers and faxes on the control page. I will type later if I find a solution to this problem.

In the meantime, who would have thought I would have a wireless home network? Never in a million years.

Enjoy your weekend!

Debbie
